Why do Disney cruise ships have godparents? ⚓️✨ I didn’t know either… until I got the exclusive chance to interview the newest one: Susan Egan, the voice of Meg from Hercules. It turns out this tradition goes way back. Civilizations have been blessing ships for safe voyages for thousands of years. By the 18th century, christenings included a ship “godparent,” usually royalty or nobility. And Disney has carried that maritime tradition forward with their own godparents, from Tinker Bell, to Mariah Carey… and now the amazing Susan Egan. At the christening party for the new Disney Destiny, I asked Susan what it means to be a ship’s godparent, and her answer is pure Disney magic. And honestly? She is the perfect choice, the Destiny’s whole theme is Heroes & Villains, with Hercules woven throughout the ship. There’s even a Megara coffee shop 👀☕️ We also talked about which side she picks (hero or villain), the emotional connection to Meg’s story, and what she’s most excited about on the Destiny. I just got back from sailing on the ship myself, and the blessing clearly worked, because the Destiny was incredible.
