Oplontis - villa that was also buried by Mount Vesuvius on the outskirts of Pompeii
Part of a National Geographic tour offered by Princess cruises . We went to Pompeii followed by going to Oplontis . This site was almost private with only one other couple here. Highly recommend as it is so well preserved. Obviously much smaller than Pompeii as it is only a huge villa rather than a full town. But the frescoes are amazing . Buried following the dramatic eruption in 79 AD, Oplontis is probably the one that offers the most significant monumental evidence of the Pompeii suburbs.
