10 Cruise Mistakes Seniors Keep Making — And How to Avoid Them
After 6 cruises in 12 months, I've seen the same rookie cruise mistakes cost retirees thousands of dollars. As a retired Fire Chief, I've learned what actually matters — and what doesn't. These aren't beginner tips. These are the specific cruise mistakes seniors over 60 make that most cruise channels never talk about. From safety risks to hidden costs, you'll learn how to skip the traps and protect your vacation. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 – Why retirees keep making the same mistakes 01:05 – Mistake #10: The Windjammer trap (and the better option) 01:45 – Mistake #9: Booking the wrong cabin location 02:13 – Mistake #8: Overpaying for excursions ($19 vs $120 in Bermuda) 03:30 – Mistake #7: Not having the Royal app ready at boarding 04:24 – Mistake #6: The medication & fridge mistake (most seniors miss this) 05:10 – Mistake #5: The power strip trap — Fire Chief warning 🚨 06:07 – Mistake #4: Skipping the muster drill 07:00 – Mistake #3: Ship Time vs. Local Time — a $5,000 mistake 08:15 – Mistake #2: The balcony railing risk 09:10 – Mistake #1: No plan for the first 3 hours (why embarkation day fails) 🚢 KEY TAKEAWAYS: • Request a medical-grade fridge from the cruise line's Special Needs department — it's free • Pack a USB multi-port charger, NOT a power strip with wall outlets • Set your watch to ship time the moment you board — never rely on your phone in port • Book shows & dining in the Royal app BEFORE you sail • The main dining room at breakfast = no lines, table service, and better coffee 🛒 CRUISE GEAR WE USE: Everything we pack: https://www.amazon.com/shop/portspensions/ ⚠️ AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE: As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you.
