Established in 2014 Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster, was the first coaster in Gatlinburg. The coaster is built on 10 acres of Gatlinburg’s scenic mountains located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. In late 2021 the coaster was purchased by the owners of our sister company Tennessee Shine Company and new management was put in place in addition to many new and exciting upgrades. After a 3-months shut down for upgrades we launched with our new name, brand, and track in March of 2022. We invested heavily in upgrading the coaster to the newest German manufacturer “Wiegand” safety standards. We added new queue lines, a new roof over the lines, and remodeled inside our Gift Shop! But our most exciting news is the new safety lighting we added to the entire mountain! This allows riders to enjoy the Smoky Mountains at night and adds an incredible light show that lights up the mountain environment in many exciting colors! The total length of the track is over 3000 ft and the difference in altitude from bottom to top is about 250ft. The ride itself is approximately 5 minutes long, including the automatic incline to the top and the ride down the mountain. Each driver is in control of their speed from the top to the bottom of the mountain and the sled can reach up to 30mph. We recommend going full speed to get the best experience! Our friendly and fun staff will greet you and secure you into your sled. While a motor pulls each sled up the mountain, you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the quiet and peaceful Smoky Mountain scenery of Gatlinburg. You may even see a bear or two! Once you reach the top, it is your turn to push your levers all the way forward and start your thrill ride at full speed, or slightly pull your levers backwards to slow down and keep cruising all the way down till you reach the end where you are greeted by our friendly staff. Children as young as 3 years old and 38″ tall can ride the Moonshine Mountain Coaster. Children may ride as passengers with an adult who will oversee the ride and control the sled. This makes Moonshine Mountain Coaster the perfect ride for families of all ages. Make sure you smile throughout the ride! Our automatic camera will snap pictures of each rider coming down the mountain. Once you exit the ride you can view your pictures and purchase that memory to take home with you! Our Gift Shop offers much more than pictures, we have drinks, ice cream, candy, snacks, cool apparel, and some other unique souvenirs. We are located right on the Parkway in Gatlinburg, at Traffic Light #2 on the left side coming into town from Pigeon Forge. We have plenty of FREE customer parking on-site and also access to public transportation right in front of our parking lot.
