Cruise news today. A search has been called off after a man overboard on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Jewel early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred roughly 188 miles off the Azores during a transatlantic voyage from Portugal to Miami. A “Code Oscar” alert was issued around 2 a.m., prompting a 10-hour search involving the ship’s crew, nearby cargo vessels, and a rescue aircraft. Carnival Cruise Line is once again clarifying how crew gratuities are handled, after online influencers spread misinformation suggesting tips are deducted from employee base pay. Brand ambassador John Heald says the claims are false. Crew members receive 100% of guest gratuities in addition to their base salary. He said that Carnival does not apply tips toward wages and that such rumors are misleading. A record 21.7 million Americans are expected to take a cruise in 2026, according to new data from AAA. That’s a 4.5% increase over 2025 and more than 50% higher than pre-pandemic levels. The Caribbean remains the top destination, attracting nearly three-quarters of U.S. cruise passengers.
