Grand Turk cruise port is one of those stops where you can have an amazing day without planning anything… but if you know a few things before you get off the ship, the experience gets a lot better. When your cruise arrives in Grand Turk, you dock at the Grand Turk Cruise Center, which is a purpose built cruise port. One of the best things about this port is how easy it is. You literally walk off the ship and the beach is right there. No tender boats, no long shuttles, no complicated logistics. Inside the port area there are also duty free shops, small restaurants, bars, and souvenir stands, so if you don’t want to leave the cruise port you really don’t have to. But if you want to see more of the island, one of the best things to do in Grand Turk is rent a golf cart and explore. You can drive across the main part of the island in under an hour, especially if you stop along the way. As you drive around you’ll see quiet beaches, colorful homes, local restaurants, and beach bars that most cruise passengers never see if they stay at the port. One thing to know before driving: cars drive on the left side of the road here. It might feel strange at first, but traffic is extremely light so it’s actually very easy. Another helpful tip is to download the Google Map of Grand Turk before you arrive so you can navigate offline without needing service. One of the places we stopped that I absolutely recommend is called Sandbar. Sandbar is a small shack style bar and restaurant right on a quiet stretch of beach. You can park your golf cart right out front, grab a drink, and walk straight onto the sand. The beach there is beautiful and much more secluded than the main cruise port beach. It also feels more local since it’s a spot where residents hang out instead of just cruise visitors.
