Canyon Overlook Trail might be the best short hike in Zion. Located immediately east of the iconic Zion–Mount Carmel Tunnel, this family-friendly trail packs incredible canyon views, cliffside walkways, and one of the most rewarding overlooks in the park into just about 1 mile round trip. The biggest challenge isn’t the hike itself—it’s finding parking. The small parking lot fills extremely early, especially during spring, summer, and fall. If you see an open spot, grab it immediately because opportunities are limited. The trail climbs gradually along slickrock ledges and sandstone steps before reaching a breathtaking overlook of Pine Creek Canyon and the towering cliffs of Zion. While there are some sections with drop-offs and uneven terrain, handrails and carved pathways help make it manageable for most families.
