Carnival Cruise Rules: Why We Got Fined $250 (Watch Before Sailing!)
Thinking about taking a Carnival Cruise soon? Before you set sail, make sure you know the strict rules onboard so you don't end up with an unexpected fine on your Sail & Sign account! In this video, Erika and I are sharing a breakdown of what happened when cruise security showed up at our cabin door and handed us a $250 Code of Conduct fine for misconduct and guest disturbance because of a bad decision our kids made onboard the cruise ship. To clear up some common questions from the comments: this incident happened during a brief window between 9:15 and 9:30 PM after our family ate dinner at the Steakhouse on our recent 8-Day Mexican Riviera cruise aboard the Carnival Panorama. The kids were utilizing Carnival's sign-out policy to voluntarily check themselves into Camp Ocean for the night, which Carnival policy fully permits prior to 10:00 PM. They were not just wandering the ship unsupervised for hours. However, they got sidetracked on the way there by a trip to the Family Harbor Lounge for ice cream, met up with a few other teenagers, got distracted, and made the mistake of ding-dong-ditching a cabin door. One bad decision later, security was at our cabin door with photos from the ship’s cameras on their tablet. 🚨 NOTE ON THE VIDEO GRAPHIC & TIMELINE: When creating the security graphic inside this video using Photoshop, I mistakenly entered the wrong timestamp on the overlay. The mock graphic shows a time past 10:00 PM, but the actual incident took place well before that, between 9:15 and 9:30 PM. When security came to our door, they showed us the official camera footage directly on their tablet. While we were able to review the proof, security protocols strictly prohibit them from providing passengers with a physical copy of the video file or image. Honestly, this turned into a massive learning experience for all of us. After talking with several security team members during the cruise, I actually understand why cruise lines are starting to take this type of behavior more seriously and why it may be happening more often. If you cruise with kids or teenagers, hopefully this video helps you avoid making the same mistake we did.
