CRUISE & TRAVEL NEWS — WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16

CRUISE & TRAVEL NEWS — WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16 Here’s what’s happening in travel today: Royal Caribbean has named retired U.S. Air Force General Lori J. Robinson as godmother of Legend of the Seas. Robinson made history as the first woman to lead a U.S. unified combatant command. The ship’s U.S. naming ceremony will take place in Fort Lauderdale on Veterans Day, November 11. MSC World Asia has successfully completed her final sea trials. The massive new flagship is scheduled for delivery November 25, followed by her naming ceremony in France and first passenger sailing from Barcelona on December 4. An injured Disney Wonder crew member was airlifted from the ship by the Royal Canadian Air Force while the vessel was more than 300 miles northwest of Vancouver. The ship’s Alaska itinerary was not impacted. And weather continues to create major airline headaches. Chicago O’Hare experienced nearly 1,800 delays following an FAA ground stop and thunderstorms, while the New York area has also experienced ground stops and significant delays affecting JFK, LaGuardia and Newark.
