SANTORINI: Beautiful, yes. Relaxing? Hmm… 😆 Santorini was one of the stops on our NCL Pearl cruise, and honestly, this was one of the places I was really looking forward to seeing. 🤍💙 But here’s something you don't always see on social media… Getting to Santorini already takes a little time because cruise ships don't dock directly at the island. We had to take a tender boat from the ship to shore. So, of course, we did what we thought was the smartest thing—woke up early and took the first tender we could catch. 😆 The goal? Beat the crowd. And guess what? We did… but the crowd was already there! 😂 From the port area, we took a bus and made our way toward Oia, the famous village known for those beautiful whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches, and that postcard-perfect Santorini view. 💙 And yes… it really IS beautiful. But here's the funny part. I always imagined Santorini as this peaceful, relaxing place where you just casually walk around those pretty little streets, stop for coffee, admire the view, and take a beautiful photo. Reality check: NOT QUITE. 😂 There are people everywhere, especially around the famous photo spots. And that iconic blue-domed view you've probably seen a thousand times online? Well… there's a LONG line of people waiting just to stand in that one perfect spot for a photo. 📸 And you're standing there under the scorching Greek sun thinking… "Okay… how badly do I really need this picture?" 😂☀️ For families with little kids, older travelers, or anyone who doesn't enjoy waiting in the heat, it can honestly be quite tiring. And that's when I realized something: Santorini can absolutely be relaxing—but maybe not when you're trying to squeeze the whole experience into a few hours on a cruise day. If your idea of Santorini is waking up slowly, enjoying breakfast with a view, wandering around without rushing, taking your time with photos, and simply soaking in the atmosphere… Then staying overnight in Oia or nearby might be a much better experience. Because when you're visiting on a day tour from a cruise ship, you have limited time—and between the tender boat, transportation, walking, crowds, photo lines, and the heat… your relaxing Santorini dream can quickly turn into a cardio workout. 😂 But despite all that? I'm still glad we went. Because sometimes travel isn't about seeing the place exactly the way Instagram promised. Sometimes it's about seeing the real version—the beautiful, crowded, hot, chaotic, unforgettable version—and laughing about it later. 😆 So yes, Santorini is gorgeous. Just don't forget to bring your water, comfortable shoes, patience… and maybe a little sense of humor. 😂💙 And if you're visiting by cruise like we did, wake up early!
