Is This Airport Really in Three Countries?
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg sounds like a rebranding exercise. It isn't. This airport sits on the border between France and Switzerland, with a separate German motorway access that bypasses French customs entirely. Depending on which exit you use, you step into a different country. In this video I fly in and work out what that actually means in practice — which terminal, which passport control, and whether the three-country claim holds up under scrutiny. It turns out it does. This is the first in a series covering Basel, Freiburg and Colmar — three cities within 30 minutes of each other, across three countries, and all reachable from the same airport. If you're planning a long weekend in this corner of Europe, start here. The series covers: Basel Airport — the geopolitical oddity explained Freiburg, Germany — the Black Forest city most people drive past Colmar, Alsace — France's most photographed village, and whether it earns it Basel — Switzerland without the price tag (mostly) How to link all three into a long weekend that actually works I make travel videos for people over 50 who plan their own trips — cruises, scenic railways, river journeys, ferries and road trips across Europe and beyond. What it costs, what surprised me, and what the brochures leave out. Travel over 50 — done properly.
