I traveled to Owego, New York to witness one of the most famous locomotives in the world—the legendary Union Pacific Big Boy 4014. In this video, you'll see drone footage of Big Boy 4014 as it passes through Owego during its special 2026 America 250 tour. This wasn't a planned documentary or a heavily produced project—just a quick trip to see one of the most iconic steam locomotives ever built and capture the experience from a unique perspective. Big Boy 4014 is the world's largest operating steam locomotive. Built in 1941 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO), these massive engines were designed to haul heavy freight trains through the rugged Wasatch Mountains between Utah and Wyoming. Only 25 Big Boy locomotives were ever built, and today No. 4014 is the only one operating anywhere in the world. After decades on display, Union Pacific completed an extensive restoration and returned Big Boy 4014 to active service in 2019. Since then, the locomotive has traveled thousands of miles across the United States, allowing people to experience a living piece of American railroad history. The 2026 tour is part of the celebration leading up to America's 250th anniversary. Wherever Big Boy 4014 travels, thousands of railfans, photographers, historians, and curious spectators gather to witness this incredible machine in action. The sight, sound, and sheer size of the locomotive make it an unforgettable experience. I made the trip to Owego specifically to see Big Boy 4014 and was fortunate enough to capture this footage as it rolled through town. Whether you're a dedicated railfan or simply appreciate historic engineering, I hope you enjoy this look at one of the most famous locomotives ever built.
