During the Galápagos cool season, the Humboldt Current brings nutrient-rich water up from the deep ocean, feeding phytoplankton and triggering a chain reaction throughout the marine ecosystem. More plankton means more fish, creating ideal conditions for seabirds and other marine wildlife. It’s also the key season for waved albatrosses. If you want to see them breeding, you’ll need to visit roughly between April and December and include Española Island in your itinerary—the only place in the world where they breed. ________________________________________________________________________________ Planning a trip to the Galápagos Islands? 🏝️ Paul McFarling is a Galápagos guide and tour organiser with over 30 years of experience helping travellers explore the islands, wildlife, landscapes, and natural history of this extraordinary destination.
