9/11 Water Evacuation Miss Ellis Island
On September 11, 2001, the waterways surrounding Manhattan became an escape route for thousands of people evacuating the city. Boats across New York Harbor answered the call, taking part in one of the largest maritime evacuations in history. Statue City Cruises’ Miss Ellis Island was among them. Today, a plaque aboard the vessel commemorates her role that day. If you ride Miss Ellis Island, take a moment to find it and reflect on the extraordinary response of September 11.
