Thinking about riding the North Star on Royal Caribbean? Before you pay for the extended experience, watch this! On our recent Quantum of the Seas cruise, I discovered how to ride the North Star for free on a port day, even when all the reservations in the Royal Caribbean app were already booked. The North Star is one of the most recognizable attractions on Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class and Quantum Ultra Class ships. The glass observation capsule lifts guests more than 300 feet above sea level for panoramic views of the cruise ship, ocean and surrounding port. In this video, I share: ✅ How to book the complimentary North Star experience ✅ Why you should check the Royal Caribbean app the day before ✅ How the North Star standby list works ✅ What happens when someone misses a reservation ✅ The difference between the free port-day ride and paid extended experience ✅ Whether the approximately $38 North Star experience is worth the money ✅ What happens when high winds cancel your reservation ✅ Our views of Ensenada, Mexico, from above Quantum of the Seas I had never tried the North Star during our previous Royal Caribbean cruises, but while walking around the upper deck in Ensenada, I learned that the crew maintains a standby list. Although the attraction was completely booked, I waited only about 20 minutes before a space opened. Standby access is never guaranteed, and some passengers may wait much longer without getting on. However, the North Star Bar is nearby, so you can grab a drink and relax while waiting to see whether a space becomes available. On many sailings, the basic North Star experience is complimentary while the ship is docked in port. During sea days, Royal Caribbean may offer a paid extended North Star experience that moves the observation capsule over the sides of the ship. Prices, availability and operating procedures can vary by ship and sailing. Would you pay around $38 for the extended North Star experience, or would you try to ride it free during a port day?
