New Zealand-Bluff Tour Part 2: Gunpit, Ships & Hill Views
Join me for Part 2 of the Bluff tour — starting at the public fishing area, catching a big container ship entering Bluff Harbour, and cruising around the waterfront. We head up to the historic WWII Bluff Gunpit, meet some tūī and fantails, and check out the heritage trail. From there it’s off to Stirling Point, the end of State Highway 1, before visiting the Bluff Hill mountain bike park and finishing at the top of Bluff Hill with views toward Invercargill, Stewart Island, Port William and the wind farm. If you enjoy local Southland travel, ship movements, or coastal history, this one’s for you. 0:00 Public fishing area – start of Part 2 0:16 Container ship entering Bluff Harbour 1:06 Watching the ship from the foreshore 2:01 Tugboats and fishing boat alongside 2:53 Back on the road 3:02 Heading to Stirling Point 3:22 War memorial 3:41 Walker Street turnoff 4:08 Walking to the Bluff Gunpit 4:29 Gunpit history & signage 5:05 Birds, tūī & fantails 6:39 Summer Sounds location 7:09 Gunpit information board 7:46 View toward Dog Island 8:07 Fantail interaction 9:15 Bird traps & conservation 9:45 Back to the car 9:54 Driving to Stirling Point 10:14 Signal station 11:03 Stirling Point signpost 11:55 Chain sculpture 12:22 Heading up Bluff Hill 13:01 Bluff Hill MTB park 13:50 Toilets & facilities 14:33 Walking to the lookout 15:11 Seal & whaling history 16:11 Signal station redundancy (1938) 16:27 Pest information 17:16 Bluff Hill summit views 17:44 Stewart Island in the mist #BluffNZ #SouthlandNZ #NewZealandTravel #BluffHill #StirlingPoint #BluffGunpit #NZHistory #TravelVlog #ScooterTour #CoastalViews #ShipSpotting #NZRoadTrip 18:11 Port William direction 18:26 Wrap‑up & fishing notes
