Papua New Guinea Cruise: Maleny, Alotau, Kiriwina & Rabaul
Join us on our 10-night journey from Brisbane to Papua New Guinea (19–29 August), starting with a rainy pre-cruise stay at the Maleny Retreat in Queensland’s bird-rich Hinterland. Across all three ports, shore excursions were coordinated by fellow traveler and knowledgeable birder Mr. Hickson Ferguson. Alotau (Milne Bay): A scenic 105 km drive through the countryside. Midday heat limited our bird sightings, but the rural landscapes were stunning. Kiriwina Island (Trobriands): A remote island operating without municipal electricity or phones, offering pristine nature, rich traditional culture, and beautiful coastlines. Rabaul (East New Britain): Traveled by private taxi to a local village for traditional dances and fresh fruit—with mixed feelings seeing chained pet birds—followed by a visit to the active volcano, Mount Tavurvur. Please watch it till End to see all the birds we captured on this trip.
