Come with us on an adventure of a lifetime to the Ross Sea side of Antarctica! This documentary vlog covers our full expedition to one of the most remote and historically significant parts of Antarctica, the Ross Sea. We started in Bluff, New Zealand, and made our way South through the Subantarctic Islands before reaching the rarely visited Ross Sea region of Antarctica, following in the path of early explorers like Scott and Shackleton. Along the way, we crossed the Antarctic Circle and made landings at key sites including Cape Adare, home to Borchgrevink’s historic hut, and Gondwana Station in Terra Nova Bay. We cruised past the massive Drygalski Ice Tongue and Inexpressible Island, where Scott’s Northern Party endured a brutal winter. In McMurdo Sound, we saw Emperor Penguins on the sea ice and were lucky to spot many Type C Orcas hunting along the edge. We explored Scott’s Terra Nova Hut at Cape Evans and Shackleton’s Nimrod Hut at Cape Royds, both perfectly preserved. We sailed along the towering face of the Ross Ice Shelf, visited Cape Bird, and made a rare stop at McMurdo Station, including a visit to Scott’s Discovery Hut. On our return north, we stopped at Franklin Island, the Possession Islands, and finally the remote Balleny Islands. This is a firsthand account of a rarely accessible part of the world. If you're interested in Antarctic history, expedition cruising, or remote wilderness travel, this is a full look at what it’s like to explore the Ross Sea.
