La Paz Was NOT What We Expected… Here’s What Cruisers Need to Know
We were excited to finally visit La Paz, Mexico aboard our cruise—but our experience at the Port of Pichilingue turned out to be VERY different from what we expected. The first thing cruisers need to understand is that the cruise port is nowhere near downtown La Paz. Pichilingue sits well outside the city, so simply getting off the ship doesn’t put you anywhere close to the attractions, restaurants, shops, or waterfront most people associate with La Paz. And then there was the HEAT. ☀️🥵 During our visit, there seemed to be almost nowhere around the immediate port area to escape it. Limited shade, very little to explore on foot, and not much reason to hang around once you’ve walked through the small port area. Adding to the atmosphere, the cruise terminal sits alongside an industrial and working port area. Instead of stepping off the ship into a beautiful Mexican resort destination, you’re greeted by buses, vehicles, pavement, industrial activity and a dry landscape. To actually experience the La Paz you’ve probably seen in pictures, you need transportation away from the port—and that makes planning your day especially important. In this video, we take you along for our experience and show you exactly what we encountered. No glossy tourism commercial. No pretending everything was perfect. Just our experience and our opinion. Was La Paz itself the problem—or is Pichilingue simply a disappointing place for cruise passengers to arrive? And most importantly… Was this OUR WORST CRUISE PORT YET? 😬 Watch the entire adventure and decide for yourself. 👇 If you’ve cruised to La Paz, we REALLY want to hear from you: Did you have a completely different experience?
