Cruising Through the Panama Canal: Bucket List Unlocked 🇵🇦
Panama Canal: Tick. ✔️ The Bucket List Destination for many, checked off our list. We took a short cut from one ocean to another in 12 hours flat. Crown Princess is a whisker too wide for the old locks so we headed through the new ones instead. 6 AM to 6 PM, we walked back and forth—Portside to Starboard, Forward to Aft—soaking in every moment with a running commentary over the P.A. One long, incredible day. What a feat of engineering. To think how wild and visionary the early ideas were: The French attempt (1881): Dig a sea-level canal straight through jungle and mountains—no locks, ignoring floods, yellow fever, and sheer geometry. The "San Blas" short cut: Dig a 5-mile tunnel through solid rock big enough for ocean liners to sail through inside a mountain. The Nicaragua alternative: Build a giant railroad system to literally pull fully loaded ships across dry land on tracks. Turned out building an artificial lake, raising ships 85 feet on gravity alone, and dropping them back down into the next ocean was the "sensible" option. What an incredible day! @Panamacanal #PanamaCanal #Cruise #MaritimeTravel #EngineeringMarvel #Cruising
