Galápagos cruises once followed similar one-week routes, which meant the most popular visitor sites became increasingly busy. To reduce that pressure, the Galápagos National Park introduced a system of 14-day itineraries. Under this system, a vessel generally cannot repeat the same visitor site within those 14 days, although passengers don’t necessarily have to stay aboard for the full two weeks.
