A powerful nor’easter pummels the shoreline in the eastern U.S., causing travel disruption

Wide of terminal, with passengers approaching flight information board STORYLINE: Residents of Sea Bright, New Jersey, cleaned up Sunday after a powerful nor’easter sent roughly three feet of water into parts of the low-lying coastal community. The storm also stripped sand from the beach, carving a shelf into the dunes, exposing previously buried pilings and leaving access stairs suspended above the sand. Surfers returned to the water as residents cleared debris, aired out flooded garages and used sandbags to guard against further flooding. At Atlantic City Beach in New Jersey, parts of the shoreline were washed away in the storm, while old wooden beams protruded from the eroded beach. Travel was disrupted up and down the coast, with flights canceled or delayed again Sunday in Boston and New York.
