We're coming to you from Majestic Princess in the middle of our very first transatlantic crossing! Today we're talking about what SIX consecutive sea days are really like, another round of weather-related cruise itinerary changes, Princess holiday cruises — and some very interesting news involving Royal Caribbean and Sandals Resorts. Royal Caribbean has announced that it is purchasing a 50% stake in Sandals Resorts. So what could that eventually mean for cruisers? Allison talks about the direction Royal Caribbean has already been moving with Perfect Day at CocoCay and its growing collection of beach clubs and destination experiences. Then she shares some thoughts about what this Sandals partnership could potentially mean in the future. Could we eventually see more complete vacation packages combining resorts and cruises? Could Sandals properties become part of the Royal Caribbean vacation experience? Those are our questions — NOT announced plans — but we're very interested to see where Royal Caribbean takes this. We also have a firsthand update from Majestic Princess. We're halfway through six consecutive sea days between Belfast and Halifax, and Allison shares what we're learning on our first transatlantic crossing. One interesting statistic: we're told there are approximately 1,900 Elite Princess guests onboard! That may help explain why some passengers are reporting laundry taking three or four days to return. Allison also has a Princess laundry tip: don't automatically count on dry cleaning being available aboard your ship. Weather continues to disrupt cruise itineraries as well. Our own itinerary changed dramatically, Grand Princess has had its Mexican Riviera itinerary altered because of Tropical Storm Polo, cruises in the Northeast have been rerouted, and weather has affected a port call in Hawaii. Finally, Princess is reminding cruisers about its holiday sailings and the special Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year's activities offered onboard.
