48 Hours in Athens With Kids | The Perfect 2-Day Athens Itinerary
Only have 48 hours in Athens, Greece? We’ll show you exactly how we recommend spending 2 days in Athens with kids — including the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Acropolis Museum, Changing of the Guard, Monastiraki, and a few family favorites along the way. Athens is packed with incredible history, but trying to see everything in just two days can quickly turn a family vacation into an exhausting marathon. After exploring the city with our four kids, we think the key is not just deciding what to see in Athens — but how to divide it up. 🏛️ DAY 1: ANCIENT ATHENS We start with the one place you absolutely can't miss: the Acropolis and Parthenon. From there, we visit the Ancient Agora, the political, commercial, and social heart of ancient Athens. We'll explain what the Agora actually was, why it's worth visiting after the Acropolis, and share some practical advice for surviving a very hot and sunny day of sightseeing in Athens. And we'll explain why we don't recommend visiting the Acropolis Museum on the same day. 🏺 DAY 2: THE ACROPOLIS MUSEUM + MODERN ATHENS With fresh legs, we visit the spectacular Acropolis Museum and show you why the building itself is almost as fascinating as the artifacts inside. We'll explore its incredible architecture, the archaeological site underneath the museum, the Parthenon Gallery, and the story of the missing Parthenon sculptures. Then we head into modern Athens to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Changing of the Guard outside the Greek Parliament before visiting one of our kids' favorite food stops of our entire trip. Seriously. They liked it more than the gelato in Italy. 😂 Finally, we'll explore Monastiraki and the Athens Flea Market for souvenirs, shopping, restaurants, and a relaxing way to finish your second day. 📍 OUR 48-HOUR ATHENS ITINERARY: Day 1 → Acropolis + Ancient Agora Day 2 → Acropolis Museum + Changing of the Guard + Monastiraki Could you squeeze more into two days? Absolutely. But when you're traveling with kids, we think there's a big difference between seeing Athens and surviving Athens. This itinerary hits the places we wouldn't want to miss while leaving enough time to actually enjoy them. If you're planning a family trip to Athens, a Mediterranean cruise, or your first trip to Greece, we hope our experience helps you plan the perfect two days. 👇 What would YOU add to a 48-hour Athens itinerary?
