This Celebrity Cruise Took Us Back In Time... But My Wife's Reaction Surprised Me

Certainly more than I expected. Alice and I used to be the busiest Guest act in the cruise industry, before we became parents in 2018. We now have 3 beautiful children, but the life we live now is very different to the one we lived before becoming parents. I still perform on between 20-30 ships a year but my wife no longer performs with me. The last Celebrity cruise ship we performed on was back in 2017 and while we adore our kids, and would never wish that away, we've really missed performing together. Well, Alice's Mum said she would have the kids for 3 nights, to enable us to undertake a very short contract on Celebrity Xcel. Alice was in two minds... on one hand, she was super excited to become one half of the World's only ventriloquist double act, again, but on the other hand, she was so reluctant to leave the kids, as we have never both left them at the same time, and she was worried about the possibility of something happening and them needing her, with her being stuck at sea, unable to get to them... the usual Mum guilt/fears etc... I told her she can't live her life like that. It's important that we make time for us, too. We aren't just Mum and Dad. We are still Gareth and Alice, and her Mum is pretty awesome, so I knew she'd be fine. Oh, and Alice and I are going out to Portugal for 3 nights in October so Alice can become an Ironman, while I support her (drink wine), so she couldn't exactly play that card.
