The best things to do in the Lake District with kids
Ah, what a difference 35 years makes? My first trip to the Lake District, as a child, was... not easy. See the blog post to find out why. But, heading back after all these years, I'm just sorry I stayed away for so long. It is *fantastically* beautiful. And that's saying something given that I live in Wales. Here's why it's a great place to visit with kids. 📖 Dove Cottage - walking the rooms where Wordsworth lived, and seeing Baby Lab run through the gardens. 🐇 Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House - where Peter Rabbit came to life. ⚡ Zip World - a surprise success! Loved it and would gladly do it again. ⛴️ Windermere Lake Cruises — we let the water carry us, stopping in Bowness, Ambleside and beyond. 🚗 A road-trip loop through Grasmere, Keswick, Buttermere & Honister Slate Mine. Absolutely stunning. 🥾 A hike (even if short) on signposted routes - time together in the open, breathing in the hills. ⛺ Glamping at The Yan - cosy pods with stoves and comfort at the edge of wildness. Er, and a top notch restaurant. 🍪 Grasmere gingerbread — the queue stretches into the cemetery but it's worth every crumb. 🏰 Sizergh Castle & Gardens - with a woodland play trail, secret gardens and a hearty veggie chilli in the cafe.
