What not to do when visiting Porto
đ Five Things I Didn't Do When Visiting Portoâ â â As Portugal's second city, Porto has plenty of things to do. It's hard, nay impossible, to fit it all in. â â So, here's what I didn't do. â â 1ïžâŁ I didnât skip the wine tour đ·â The city is built on the port trade, with black scythe shaped boats rocking on the water. Crossing the staggering Dom LuĂs I Bridge to Vila Nova de Gaia to explore historic port cellars connected me with the city's past. And, hic, tasted nice. â â 2ïžâŁ I did skip Livraria Lello đ This beautiful bookshop is interlinked with Harry Potter and attracts queues that stretch down the street as everyone wants to get their selfie there. â Not ideal if you have limited time. (Or, possibly, ever? )â â 3ïžâŁ I didnât stay in the past - or the centre. â Away from the tourist hot spots, Casa da MĂșsica gives a glimpse of the modern city through architecture and performances.â â 4ïžâŁ I didn't eat along the riverbankâ Small, family-run eateries serve up Portoâs soul with hearty traditional dishes, rich flavours, and warm conversation. If you know where to find them. â 5ïžâŁ I did cruise along the Douro...â As I say, the city's history is almost defined by the port trade. It was fascinating to head along this waterway and see it for myself.
