MSC Virtuosa Iceland and Norway Cruise 2026: Måløy (Nordfjord). What interesting sights can you see at this cruise port in good weather, and is it even worth leaving the ship? It's a fact that it's not worth it in bad weather. If you just want a quick, flat 30–40 minute walk around the harbour area in good weather to get some fresh air, you can see everything there is for free: A few colorful street art murals painted on the local port buildings. A quiet stroll along Gate 1 to look at ordinary, everyday Norwegian village life. A walk to the base of the Måløy Bridge to snap a photo of the ship. But what if you actually want to spend money on an excursion? Tour companies will happily sell you a minibus trip to see the famous mushroom-shaped rock, Kannesteinen, located about 10 km away in Oppedal. It takes about 20 minutes to drive there and costs around $60 per person just for a 15-minute stop. Other cruisers often report that it's much smaller than in the photos, the surrounding stones are incredibly slippery, and it gets easily crowded. If you’ve seen for example Brimham Rocks, this little formation won’t impress you at all. While Kannesteinen is just a small coastal rock shaped by ocean waves, it cannot compete with the massive, 320-million-year-old balancing gritstone giants we have back home in Yorkshire for free. However, there is one thing that commercial excursions can't buy: the genuine warmth of the locals. It was incredibly touching to look down from the ship and see the residents standing out on the concrete pier, bracing against the icy wind just to wave us off with international flags. It's those little, heartwarming moments that stay with you.Sometimes the best part of a cruise is simply doing nothing, watching the quiet fjord through a panoramic window, and enjoying a half-empty ship while everyone else is busy rushing around. #MSCVirtuosa #MaloyNorway #Nordfjord #SlowTravel #NorwayCruise #TravelVlogTags
