Is Elite Club at Riu Palace Kukulkan worth it? We paid $5,000 for seven nights — two people, a suite, all food and all drinks — and got put in what the front desk called the biggest room in the building. Here's exactly what that money buys. That works out to about $714 a night for both of us. Roughly $357 per person, with everything included. SUITE 5045 Fifth floor, corner unit, ocean facing. Separate living area with a sofa and a dining table, a bedroom that photographs like a suite rather than a hotel room, and a wraparound balcony overlooking two pools and open ocean. If you're booking Elite Club here, this is the room number to request. They can't promise it — ask anyway. WHAT ELITE CLUB ACTUALLY INCLUDES • An upgraded suite • One restaurant only Elite Club guests can book • One pool nobody else can use • Premium liquor instead of the house pour That's the whole list. Four things. You are not getting a private wing or a separate beach — same sand, same ocean, same buffet, same shows as everyone else in the building. THE HONEST VERDICT Would we book Elite Club again? Yes. But the standard rooms here would have been fine too. Kukulkan is a good resort at every level, and not one of those four extras is the reason the week worked. The balcony was. If you can get a high floor on the ocean side without paying for Elite Club, you've got most of what we had. Ask for the view. The tier is optional. WHO SHOULD SKIP IT If you're out the door at nine and back at midnight, you're paying a premium for a room you'll barely see.
