It’s always the number one question I get
It’s always the number one question I get. Most people mean well and just want to learn more. Because growing up, the only main socialization we had was through school since we spent all of our waking hours there with after school activities and after school care while parents worked. But the question to ask yourself: just because that’s how we grew up does it mean it’s ideal and does it mean it’s still relevant? The answer is NO! Core family unit is always going to be more beneficial until children are ready to go out on their own. Interacting with kids and adults of various ages ( rather than being stuck in a room with 30 kids your age ) is always going to be more beneficial. Attention from parents will always be more beneficial than fractionated attention from overwhelmed teachers. Homecooked meal will always be better than school lunch. Parents don’t work sunrise to sunset anymore. Many of us have found our own path to more balanced living with remote work, flexible hours and our own businesses. And why is no one talking how much school environments have changed to resemble prisons? There’s no socialization happening at schools anymore. Kids aren’t allowed to talk in hallways, not allowed to study together, not allowed to be kids at recess. Recess gets taken away as a punishment. It’s mass child management and day care. It’s not true life education. So how do we make sure our daughter has enough socialization? Co-ops, worldschooling trips with other families, activities, FaceTime, play dates.
