Join us as we explore Athens, Greece during our month-long Mediterranean Grand Tour featuring two cruises. During our stop aboard the Norwegian Epic, we visited the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Plaka, and the historic streets of Athens on an “Acropolis & Leisure” excursion. In this video, Tom hikes to the top of the Acropolis while Sherry explores the lower areas and city surroundings after not feeling well, giving two different perspectives of this famous Athens cruise stop. Along the way, we share what surprised us about Athens, the crowds, the history, the beautiful churches, and the contrast between the ancient sites and the modern city surrounding them. We enjoyed visiting the churches in our visits which includes the Holy Church of the Sacred Power Ayia Dynami, the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation of Virgin Mary, the Church of Panagia Gorgoepikoos (Little Metropolis), located in the Mitropeleos Square area in Plaka. We also share views from the Athens cruise port, our experience returning to the ship at the busy port area, and reflections on finally seeing the Acropolis in person after studying Greek and Roman history for many years.
