Day 6 in Nanaimo | Cake Tasting, Rainy Adventures & Holland America’s Orange Party!
From cake overload to bunnies in the rain and the biggest Orange Party we’ve ever seen — Nanaimo did not disappoint! 🧡🍰🐇 📖 DESCRIPTION Day 6 of our Great Bear Rainforest Cruise brought us to Nanaimo, British Columbia — famous for its bars (the dessert kind), its waterfront charm, and apparently… rain. We kicked off the morning on deck for Holland America’s On Deck for a Cause 5K charity walk, raising funds and steps at the same time. Then it was straight into Cake Me Away, a dessert tasting with more than 20 different flavours. Let’s just say we had too much cake and zero regrets. After an informative port talk about Ripple Rock (and its wild undersea history), we docked in Nanaimo to explore the waterfront and downtown. Rain or not, we wandered through local shops, found an amazing bakery, grabbed coffee at Brick & Mortar, and met some of the friendliest local bunnies you’ll ever see. We also did what any responsible tourist would do — we tried the real Nanaimo bars, grabbed a few local souvenirs (including magnets and jewelry), and took Captain Otterman along for the ride. Back onboard, we enjoyed a Dutch-themed dinner, another round with the ship’s comedian, and then partied at Holland America’s Orange Party — now held on the World Stage instead of the lounge, and it was epic. Dancers, live music, and a full ship of people in orange — the energy was unreal. This cruise just keeps getting better. Tomorrow we’re off on a small-boat whale-watching adventure, and if Steph gets her wish, maybe we’ll finally see some orcas. 📍 CHAPTERS 00:00 Morning coffee confusion (what day is it again?) 00:30 On Deck for a Cause 5K walk 02:15 Cake Me Away – dessert overload 04:00 Ripple Rock port talk 05:10 Docking in Nanaimo & Captain Otterman cameo 06:00 Shuttle ride & Nanaimo bar welcome 07:10 Exploring downtown & waterfront shops 08:45 Rainy walk & bunny encounters 10:30 Brick & Mortar Coffee stop 11:15 Local souvenirs & magnet haul 12:30 Dutch-themed dinner onboard 13:15 Orange Party on the World Stage 14:10 Evening recap & plans for whale watching 🍰 From charity walks to cake tasting and a full-on Orange Party — Nanaimo had it all!
