Portland Maine Cruise Port | Ghost Tour, Volendam & Our $100 Stateroom Mistake

Day 2 of our Canada and New England cruise brings us to Portland, Maine, and apparently we decided a ghost tour at 8 in the morning was a perfectly normal way to start the day. 😂 We joined the Ghosts and Legends of Portland tour for a walk through the Old Port, mixing some of Portland's history with local ghost stories and legends. After that, we explored the waterfront, grabbed coffee, checked out some local shops and got a feel for just how easy Portland is to explore directly from the cruise port. Back onboard Holland America's Volendam, we grabbed lunch at Dive-In, learned a few things from Holland America's port talks, went to afternoon tea, watched sailaway and got ready for dressy night. Then things took a bit of a turn. Steph wasn't feeling so great during dinner thanks to the movement of the ship, and we finally need to talk about that $100 CAD stateroom upgrade we were so excited about. Turns out upgrading isn't always an upgrade. Light coming through the window, people walking directly outside, and the overnight kitchen prep happening above our ceiling taught us a pretty valuable lesson about choosing a cruise stateroom. Earplugs to the rescue. Would it ruin our cruise? Not even close. But we definitely learned something. Thanks for coming along with us!
