Meet Sonata: A Unique Filipino Band Performing at Sea
During the inaugural sailing of Norwegian Luna, I came across something that wasn’t meant to be reviewed—it was meant to be experienced. “Sonata” is a full band from Cebu, Philippines, and what makes them unique isn’t just their talent—it’s their story. Every member of the band lives within minutes of each other back home, and that connection shows in everything they do on stage. As someone who works in theatrical lighting and sound, I’ve seen my share of performers. I can appreciate talent—but I’m always drawn to the story behind it. And Sonata has both. What started as simply enjoying their music turned into something much more personal. I was introduced to them and welcomed into their circle - their actual non-band family members onboard, and in Filipino culture, that kind of invitation carries real meaning. It’s more than hospitality—it’s family. This isn’t a review. This is a look at who they are, where they come from, and why they became such a highlight of my cruise. I hope you enjoy the story of Sonata.
