BLUE LADY BLUES, Chapter One: Visiting the S.S. NORWAY at the Scrapyard
Join Peter Knego as he pays a rare and technically "forbidden" visit to the BLUE LADY, the former S.S. NORWAY/FRANCE at the Indian scrapyard of Alang in 2006, just weeks after the ship was beached. In this first of three videos, which form the fourth in Knego's ongoing "On The Road To Alang" series, you board the ship via a tender, scale her forward stairs and tour her outer decks, including a visit to her towering radio mast. This video also tells the story of this once heralded ship, from her origins as French Line's splendid S.S. FRANCE to her conversion into the then world's largest cruise ship, the S.S.NORWAY and the NORWAY's gradual decline, leading to a fatal boiler room explosion in 2003 that ended her career. You will also see some of the other passenger ships at Alang at the time, including the remains of the CHINA SEA DISCOVERY, originally Cunard's 1956-built CARINTHIA but best known as Sitmar's FAIRSEA before becoming Princess/P&O Australia's FAIR PRINCESS. Also on the beach, the FOREST was best known as the Greek cruise ship CITY OF RHODOS and there are two of the heavily rebuilt Tirrenia Poet Class ferries, the former MANZONI and PASCOLI, which were beached after their sister, the former BOCCACCIO rolled over in the Red Sea with a loss of 1,030 lives. There will be two more parts to this video, coming soon to this channel.
