Santander In 2hrs: EPIC FAIL! But Worth Every Exhausting Step! 🚶What to See in Santander in One Day
Santander in 2 Hours? That was the plan… but this one-day adventure turned into one of the most entertaining walks we’ve ever done. After arriving on the brand new direct Binter flight from Lanzarote to Santander, Mr TravelON and Alfie set out to see how much of this beautiful northern Spanish city you can explore on foot in a quick visit. Binter’s Lanzarote–Santander service launched on 31 March 2026, operating on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This Santander walking tour takes you along the coast past the universities, harbours, museums, beaches, and some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including the stunning Magdalena Peninsula and the iconic Palacio de la Magdalena, one of Santander’s best-known sights. The palace sits on the peninsula above the bay, while the surrounding grounds are a major attraction in their own right. If you are wondering what to do in Santander in one day, where to walk in Santander, or what to see on a quick visit, this route gives you a real feel for the city. Santander’s official tourism guides highlight the bay, Paseo de Pereda, Centro Botín, El Sardinero, the Magdalena area, beaches, the cathedral, Mercado de la Esperanza and Cabo Mayor Lighthouse among the city’s standout places to visit. Along the way, you’ll see why Santander is perfect for a scenic coastal walk. From the harbourfront and city centre to El Sardinero, the Magdalena Peninsula and even the route towards Cabo Mayor Lighthouse, there is so much to see if you love sea views, elegant architecture and relaxed northern Spain vibes. Santander’s official one-day itinerary specifically recommends walking the Sardinero beaches and continuing through the Magdalena area, while Cabo Mayor is one of the city’s most recognisable viewpoints. But there’s a twist. After all those stairs, all that walking and all that effort to reach the palace… it was closed. Still, the walk itself was absolutely worth it for the views, the atmosphere and the experience. And to make it even more painful, by the time the adventure ended, the train had started operating again… meaning they basically walked for nothing. Or did they? Because this turned into one of the funniest and most unexpectedly rewarding ways to explore Santander. Whether you are planning a Santander day trip, a cruise stop, a quick city break, or you’ve just landed and want the best walking route, this video shows what Santander is really like on foot in a short visit.
