How to visit Milford Sound without overpaying 💸
Comment "NEW ZEALAND" and we’ll send you our PAID ultimate NZ Travel Guide, packed with 150+ pins (places to see & stay) plus ready-made 10, 12, 15, and 21-day itineraries! 📩 Before you drive out to Milford Sound, there are a few practical things you actually need to know: Te Anau is your last chance for petrol and food. Once you’re on the Milford Road, there isn't a single fuel station or café for 120 km. Midday cruises get slammed and they’re noticeably more expensive. Booking an early morning or late afternoon slot saves decent money and cuts down on the crowds.Don’t stress if the forecast calls for rain. Rain brings out thousands of temporary waterfalls cascading right off the cliffs, which is easily the best way to see the fiord. Parking right by the terminal is $10 an hour, but there’s a free car park at Deepwater Basin about a 25 to 30-minute walk away if you want to skip the fee. Lastly, put bug spray on before stepping out of the car. The sandflies around the car park and water will eat you alive within minutes.
