Half the "banned items" lists online are simply made up — so here's the honest one, straight from the major lines' own prohibited-items policies. In this 2026 update I go through the 12 things cruise security really will confiscate, several of which you've probably packed without a second thought: surge-protected power strips (and the plain strip that's usually fine), irons AND steamers, extension cords — unless you request the medical one for your CPAP, candles, anything that heats water, heating pads (it genuinely depends on your line), spirits, and the one that worries me most, CBD in every form. Plus hoverboards and e-scooters vs your mobility scooter (which is welcomed), battery luggage, blades, and drones you can bring but can't fly — and the 4 things I'd do instead of worrying. A gentle, honest note: prohibited-item policies vary by cruise line and by the countries on your itinerary, and they change — always check your own line's official prohibited-items page before you pack, and clear anything medical (CPAP cords, heating pads, oxygen, refrigerated medication) with the accessibility desk in writing.
