The Isle of Wight Steam Railway - a Doris Visits excursion from Southampton. This was an unexpected package of pleasure. And to think many pass by to peruse the bookshop and have tea and cakes. Others attended with a nod to the period dress. Children wondered at things they had never seen before - steam engines... and the rest of us went, "Wow. I remember those." The 'village and museum are free', but a ride on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway costs money. The heritage railway on the Isle of Wight steams through five and a half miles of countryside from Smallbrook Junction to Wootton station, passing through the small village of Havenstreet, where the line has a station, headquarters and a depot. Route and Stations The heritage train stops at the following stations along the way: Southern Vectis - The Island's Buses Smallbrook Junction: The southern end of the line where you can connect directly to the island's modern Island Line electric trains. (This station has no road access.) Ashey: A rural stop along the route. Havenstreet: Where our film is shot. The central hub and headquarters, featuring the main station, a museum, the Train Story Discovery Centre, and a café. Wootton: The northern terminus and final country station on the line, styled with Edwardian features. The complete return journey takes passengers on a scenic 10-mile round trip through fields and ancient woodlands.
