That was a very “unique” way to announce it. I would have used slightly different wording 😂 So we were slated to fly home to Florida from Tokyo after 3 months of traveling and worldschooling all over Oceania and Asia. It was a 12 hour flight to our connection and then after 5 hours another 4 hour flight. So not a very fun travel day considering a 15 hour time change. We boarded the plane as normal but had to sit and wait for about 1-2 hours while they refueled. The captain did a good job updating us though. Then the plane was armed and we went into an active taxiway where we proceeded to wait for another 2 hours ( that’s when you have to remain in your seats. A man tried to go to the bathroom with his toddler daughter and was told to sit down or change her in the seat) We were then told we had mechanical problems with the computers and have to go back to the gate to get it fixed. That’s when I knew we weren’t flying today. Just had a feeling. After another 1.5 hrs they announced that the computers are fine but ailerons are malfunctioning and it would take another 2 hours for the mechanics to fix them and the crew are out of time. It took them another hour to figure out what they were going to do with a plane full of people. So after an hour of waiting, this is the announcement we got 😂🙈 Now I don’t blame Delta, they tried their best to get us in the air and I would rather cross the pacific with enough fuel and a functioning plane. And despite a very unclear message about the hotel, once we deplaned, we were all given a print out of compensation. Which was about $200 per person for food and hotel and how to redeem it.
