Penguins of the Falkland Islands 🇫🇰
Join us for a rare and unforgettable visit to the Bluff Cove Penguin Rookery in the Falkland Islands, filmed during our 22‑night Holland America Line voyage aboard the Oosterdam from Buenos Aires to Santiago via Antarctica. This 16‑minute video captures our journey along the rugged East Falkland landscape, beginning with the turnoff toward Bluff Cove and passing the dramatic “river of rock” — one of the Falklands’ famous stone runs, described by Charles Darwin as “streams of stones” flowing down the hillsides. These prehistoric formations were shaped by freeze‑thaw cycles during the last Ice Age and are unique in scale to the Falklands. Our driver and guide, June, from the Bluff Cove Rookery team, was exceptional — sharing the history of the islands, the 1982 conflict, the Falklands’ government, education, health and penal systems, and life in this remote British Overseas Territory. We’re so grateful for her warmth and knowledge. We were incredibly lucky to visit at all: due to incoming foul weather, our Captain made the call to skip Punta del Este and sail directly to Puerto Madryn, allowing us to reach the Falklands a day early. Bluff Cove is located on a privately owned sheep farm run by Hattie and Kevin Kilmartin, who have lovingly hosted visitors for years. This season will be their last offering shore excursions as they transition to a quieter life on their land. Their hospitality was outstanding — from hot drinks to homemade cakes, biscuits, scones with diddle‑dee jam, and the warm, friendly team in the Sea Cabbage Café. The stars of the video are the King Penguins, some feeding their young, and the hundreds of Gentoo Penguins that call Bluff Cove home. You’ll also see a lone King Penguin near the café calling for its mate, plus sweeping views of the rookery before our time ran out. Video Highlights: • Bluff Cove access road & stone runs • Arrival at the rookery • King Penguins feeding chicks • Gentoo Penguin colony • Final sweep of the penguins If you’re planning a cruise to the Falklands or simply love penguins and remote wildlife destinations, this video brings the magic of Bluff Cove to life. #falklandislands #penguins #hollandamerica #southamericacruise #antarcticacruise #wildlifeencounter #cruiselife #naturelovers #travel #travelvlog #wanderlust #explore #adventure #nature #cinematic #discover #fyp #foryou #mustsee #mustwatch #wow #storytelling #earthofficial #ourplanetdaily #earthfocus #planetearth #penguin 00:00 Start 00:07 River of Rocks 01:06 Arrival at Bluff Cove 01:37 King Penguins 03:42 Gentoo Penguins 07:23 Kings and Gentoos Together 09:38 Baby King Penguin Feeding (with Sound) 10:06 Baby King Penguin Feeding (Photo Sequence) 10:45 Selfie in the Wind 10:53 More Kings & Gentoos 11:40 Down by the South Atlantic Shoreline 13:07 Lone King Penguin 13:19 Upland Geese 13:37 Lone King Calling to Its Mate 14:20 More Kings & Gentoos 16:05 Final Shot of Bluff Cove 16:22 End
