Scenic Cruising Day! đŸ‹â˜•ïž From whales and tea time to a surprise Yorkie cameo and a chocolate mystery — this might be our favourite day yet. Day 5 on our Great Bear Rainforest cruise was pure magic. We sailed through Grenville Channel and past Bella Bella, British Columbia, and it honestly felt like we were gliding through a nature documentary. We started the morning on deck watching the moon fade behind misty mountain peaks, bundled up with coffee, blankets, and all the “cold side vs warm side” debates you can imagine. The views? Unreal. Forested cliffs so close it felt like you could touch them. And yes — Captain Otterman made his official debut as our onboard mascot. We spent the day spotting whales — pods of 30 or more! — right off the ship. Holland America nailed the timing on this one. Between the whale show, the Alaskan Brunch, and a peaceful walk on the promenade deck, we couldn’t have asked for better weather or views. Afternoon brought English Tea Time (finally filmed it this time!), complete with finger sandwiches, scones, and desserts that looked too good to eat. And just when we thought the day couldn’t get better, Chocolate Surprise Night hit — served in the casino area with a view that, honestly, I liked more than Steph did. The night wrapped with the new Holland America show, featuring incredible live performances that gave us chills. The production, music, and choreography were world-class — easily the best we’ve seen at sea. Steph called it “perfection,” and she’s not wrong. Oh, and before we sign off — yes, I had to publicly correct myself on the salmon ladder thing. Scotland did it first in the 1830s. Ketchikan’s was just the first of its kind in Alaska. Thanks to everyone who keeps us learning. Next stop: Nanaimo, British Columbia — and we’re bringing the tides obsession with us. 📍 CHAPTERS 00:00 Captain Otterman’s debut & morning views 01:20 Scenic cruising in Grenville Channel 02:45 Promenade walk – cold side vs sunny side 04:15 Whale sightings (so many!) 06:40 Port talk for Nanaimo & Victoria 07:50 English Tea Time (finally filmed) 09:10 More whales and Bella Bella views 10:40 Casino fun & chocolate surprise 11:30 Dressy night & best show of the cruise 13:10 Reflections and the salmon ladder correction 14:00 What’s next – Nanaimo awaits 🐋 Scenic cruising day might just be the best day at sea!
