Because of the surge in Western Caribbean cruise travel and the arrival of larger vessels like the Icon-class Star of the Seas, Royal Caribbean partnered with the engineering firm Coastal Systems International to design and execute a comprehensive, multi-phase master plan. Complete with The Waterfront Village, which is designed as a day-use sanctuary for cruise passengers, the newly integrated waterfront layout doubles as a lively dining and entertainment hub for the local island community in the evenings. It also brings the Town Center Concept: the multi-story layout features expanded retail avenues, local artisan spaces, a beachfront swimming pool, and an upscale marina to support water-based recreation and catamaran excursions.
