Our first time exploring San Juan, Puerto Rico from MSC World America turns into an unforgettable adventure! Today we're visiting San Juan during our MSC World America cruise and exploring the city on our own. We start by arriving at the cruise port and walking through the beautiful streets of Old San Juan before making our way to the famous Castillo San Felipe del Morro. Since we don't have internet while we're exploring, finding a map at a visitor information stand becomes incredibly helpful and allows us to find our way to El Morro. We pay $10 for admission, which also gives us access to Castillo San Cristóbal. We explore both historic forts, take in the incredible ocean views, and learn a little more about the history of San Juan and Puerto Rico. After exploring the forts, we're ready for some Puerto Rican food! We stop at Restaurant El Jibarito and both order mofongo with chicken. The food is really good, and we definitely recommend checking this restaurant out if you're visiting Old San Juan. We'll leave the restaurant information below. After lunch, we head back to MSC World America for about an hour to rest and change before heading back out. Then comes another adventure... We walk approximately 45 minutes to Balneario El Escambrón. The beach is beautiful, peaceful, and has crystal-clear water. And just when we think the beach day can't get any better... We unexpectedly see a SEA TURTLE! 🐢 Kevin is able to get a little footage of the turtle while snorkeling, but when it starts swimming directly toward him, he gets a little nervous! 😂 We also share an important reminder about respecting wildlife and giving sea turtles plenty of space when encountering them in their natural environment. After enjoying the beach, we walk another 45 minutes back toward the cruise port. It's extremely hot, but honestly, we feel like the experience is worth it. San Juan leaves us with such a great impression. It's full of history, beautiful scenery, amazing food, and so many places we would love to explore again.
