Carnival's private island just hit its one-year mark, and the numbers are hard to ignore, 2.4 million guests through the gates since opening, over 500,000 trips down the waterslides, and more than 100,000 piña coladas poured along the way. What started as a single destination reached its millionth guest in just five months. The bigger story sits underneath the fun-in-the-sun numbers though. Celebration Key became the first cruise destination to earn Sensory Inclusive Certification, and it now supports around 1,000 year-round jobs for people in Grand Bahama, with more than 80 percent of the retail and food operators locally owned. A pier extension opened this June doubled the destination's ship capacity, and Carnival's already hinting at more expansion ahead. For a private island that's only been open a year, that's a lot of donuts, a lot of donations back to the local community, and apparently a lot more still coming.
