Celebrity Constellation vs Reflection vs Ascent: Is Newer Better?

Celebrity Ascent is 21 years newer, approximately 55 percent larger than Celebrity Constellation and can cost close to twice as much. But does that make it twice as good? In this first-hand comparison, we examine three generations of Celebrity Cruises ships: • Celebrity Constellation from the Millennium Series • Celebrity Reflection from the Solstice Series • Celebrity Ascent from the Edge Series My wife and I sailed Constellation and Ascent in Europe and Reflection in the Caribbean. We experienced The Retreat on all three ships, staying in Celebrity Suites on Constellation and Ascent and a Royal Suite on Reflection. We later returned to Constellation in a Royal Suite for the Best of Italy and Croatia cruise in July 2026. We compare the ships’ atmosphere, size, suites, service, dining, entertainment, Retreat facilities and overall value. Because we did not stay in standard cabins, our cabin comparison focuses specifically on our suite experiences. Two results genuinely surprised us. The oldest ship provided our most flexible dining experience, while upgrading to a Royal Suite added valuable benefits but did not improve the already outstanding personal service we experienced throughout The Retreat. Constellation offers intimacy, traditional cruising and excellent value. Reflection provides the strongest balance between classic cruising and modern features. Ascent delivers the boldest design, most advanced entertainment and most complete Retreat experience. Our approach to choosing a cruise is simple: the itinerary comes first, overall value comes second and the ship comes after that. If the itineraries and prices were similar, we would choose the newest-generation ship. When they are not, we target the cruise offering the best total experience for the money.
