One of the highlights of my first voyage aboard Virgin Voyages' Resilient Lady was a special behind-the-scenes Bridge Tour. When I worked at sea years ago, there were zero women on the bridge team. That's why it was so inspiring to learn that four women navigate this ship: our superb guide Cadet Habiba, 2nd Officer Alexandra, 3rd Officer Aphrodite, and Safety Officer Camilla. They also shared that women are working in the engine room, an enormous change from my days at sea. The technology has changed, too. The bridge operates with 22 computers and two electronic chart systems. No paper charts. No pencils. Just sophisticated digital navigation systems guiding the ship across the ocean. Of course, I still loved seeing the wheel (and the mini wheel!) and learning more about how the ship is steered and kept on track. And I definitely couldn't pass up the chance for a photo in the captain's chair! 📸⚓️ As someone who spent seven years working onboard cruise ships, it was exciting to see how far the industry has come—and especially to see women confidently leading the way on the bridge. Here's to more women at sea, on the bridge, and in the engine room. 🚢 #VirginVoyages #ResilientLady #AdultsOnly #Cruise #Travel Ready to sail? https://bit.ly/VVSailLN @virginvoyages @thejetsettv
