Cruise tipping can be one of the most debated parts of a cruise vacation! 🚢💰 Do you leave the automatic gratuities on your cruise bill, remove them and tip in cash, or leave them AND give extra money to the crew members who take especially good care of you? In this video, we’re talking about cruise gratuities, tipping your cabin steward, and the different ways cruisers handle tipping onboard. One big question: Do you ever remove the automatic gratuities from your cruise account? Cruise lines typically use these daily gratuities to compensate or reward multiple crew members who contribute to your vacation experience, including some people working behind the scenes. Some passengers prefer the convenience of leaving the gratuities in place, while others would rather personally tip the crew members who served them. Then there’s the cabin steward. If you want to tip extra, when should you do it? Some experienced cruisers like giving their cabin steward an additional cash tip at the beginning of the cruise as a gesture of appreciation and to start the vacation on a positive note. Others wait until the last night of the cruise so they can base the extra gratuity on the service they received throughout the sailing. And some people do BOTH — a little extra at the beginning and another tip at the end for outstanding service.
