Sitka Alaska Cruise Port: We Came for the Chowder… Found Something Better
What can you do at the Sitka Alaska cruise port without an excursion? We spent the day exploring Sitka on our own, looking for a favorite salmon chowder spot and seeing where the day took us. Our one real goal was simple: find the salmon chowder we loved on our last visit. That didn't exactly go according to plan. 😂 But wandering around Sitka led us to something we'd never been able to see on our previous May visits — the salmon running in August. We walk through downtown Sitka, visit Baranof Castle State Historic Site, try a new place for lunch, see the salmon jumping at the ladder, walk through Sitka National Historical Park, and eventually face one seriously long shuttle line back to the cruise ship.
