How Cruise Gratuities Actually Work

How do cruise gratuities actually work? You can normally prepay them before your cruise or have them charged to your onboard account during the sailing. Daily gratuities are distributed among several crew members, including people working behind the scenes. Additional cash tips are optional. If someone provides exceptional service, you can give them something extra, but you do not have to tip everyone twice. Remember that certain purchases—including drinks, specialty dining, room service and spa treatments—may have separate gratuities or service charges added automatically.
